Governor Dauda Lawal recently signed groundbreaking legislation that repeals and re-enacts the state's Consolidated Revenue Laws, establishing a comprehensive framework for transparent and efficient tax administration.

The new law creates the Zamfara State Internal Revenue Service, empowering it with robust powers to assess, collect, and account for state revenues. This strategic reform aligns with President Bola Tinubu's broader national tax reforms, demonstrating a commitment to eliminating fragmented and outdated revenue practices.

By harmonizing tax and non-tax revenues, the government aims to create a more predictable business environment, particularly benefiting small and medium-scale enterprises that have historically struggled with complex and arbitrary levy systems. The legislation promises to reduce multiple charges, decrease undue pressure on citizens and businesses, and restore public confidence in governmental financial mechanisms.

This progressive approach is not happening in isolation. Zamfara joins Ekiti and Anambra states in re-enacting modern revenue laws, reflecting a growing nationwide consensus on the need for transparent, technology-driven revenue administration.

In a complementary humanitarian gesture, the Governor's wife, Hajiya Huriyya Lawal, further demonstrated the government's commitment to citizen welfare by personally covering medical bills for patients at Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital. Each patient received ₦150,000 to ease their financial challenges, underscoring the administration's holistic approach to public service.

To support this transformative agenda, the state government has also distributed critical ICT equipment to various ministries and departments. These technological resources, provided through the Zamfara State Action on Business Enabling Reforms Programme, will further streamline governmental operations and enhance administrative efficiency.
