In a surprising turn of events, the Ogun State Government has postponed the highly anticipated commissioning of the Laderin Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station and the Sagamu–Ayepe Road, leaving residents and stakeholders wondering about the unexpected delay.

The planned unveiling, originally scheduled for Saturday, January 3, 2026, was abruptly cancelled through an official notice issued by the state government on Friday, just after invitation letters had been widely circulated.

Governor Dapo Abiodun was set to inaugurate the train station at 10:30 a.m. in Laderin, Abeokuta, before proceeding to commission the Sagamu–Ayepe Road at 2:00 p.m. in Sagamu Local Government Area. However, the government's subsequent notice formally cancelled the entire program without providing specific reasons for the postponement.

The Laderin Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station represents a critical transport infrastructure connecting Abeokuta to Lagos via the Lagos–Ibadan rail corridor. The associated road leading to the station has been a focal point of public concern, with residents previously protesting its poor condition and limited accessibility.

Rehabilitation efforts for the Laderin–Olokuta Road, which serves over 40 communities, commenced in 2024 following sustained public outcry. The road had been in a deplorable state for more than two years, significantly impacting local socio-economic activities.

In their official communication, state officials expressed deep regret for any inconvenience caused by the postponement. They assured the public that a new date for the project's commissioning would be communicated in due course, maintaining transparency and commitment to infrastructure development.
