Gombe State Launches $95M Infrastructure Transformation Project
Gombe State approves massive N35 billion infrastructure project, launching comprehensive upgrades to roads, airport, and public facilities. The initiative promises to dramatically improve state connectivity and economic potential.
In a bold move towards modernizing state infrastructure, Gombe State's Executive Council has approved groundbreaking investments totaling over N35 billion, signaling a comprehensive upgrade of transportation and public facilities.
Governor Muhammadu Yahaya presided over the 51st State Executive Council meeting, where ambitious road construction and infrastructure development projects were greenlit, demonstrating the state's commitment to economic growth and community connectivity.
The cornerstone of the initiative is a series of road construction projects, including a significant 6.3-kilometer road network within the newly developed Family Homes Estate, which will cost approximately ₦7.097 billion. Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Maijama'a Kallamu, emphasized that this project will dramatically improve access and link surrounding communities more effectively.
Beyond the Family Homes Estate project, the council approved an additional ₦26.7 billion for constructing and reconstructing 20.1 kilometers of strategic roads across the state. These include a new road connecting ATC Gombe to GSU Express Road, reconstruction of Layin Speaker Road, and extensions into the Special Capital Development Zone.
The infrastructure overhaul extends to critical facilities like the Gombe International Airport in Lawanti, which will receive ₦669,982,913 for comprehensive renovations. Having been operational since 2008 without significant maintenance, the airport will undergo substantial upgrades, including a new administrative block and modern facilities to meet international standards.
Additional projects include ₦714,366,691 for road and facility development at the Qatar Foundation site and ₦202.6 million for constructing a Gombe Geographic Information Systems (GOGIS) Area Office in the Shehu Abubakar District.
Governor Yahaya's administration is clearly signaling its intent to transform Gombe's infrastructure, positioning the state as a modern, investor-friendly destination with enhanced connectivity and public amenities.
